Banjoist Kenny Ingram started his new endeavors with Larry Stephenson at the top of the New Year on January 1, 2009. Having been inspired to learn the banjo by watching the Flatt & Scruggs TV show at the age of 12, his parents purchased him his first banjo. As a teenager he played dances in and around Dickson, TN before landing his first professional job with James Monroe and The Midnight Ramblers.
In May of 1972, he joined Jimmy Martin and The Sunny Mountain Boys. Late in October of 1973, Kenny he went to work with Lester Flatt & The Nashville Grass that gained him world acclaim from their appearances each week day morning on The Martha White Show broadcast on WSM radio in Tennessee. Kenny rejoined Jimmy Martin in June 1978 and remained a band member until 1980. During1981 – 1986, he then worked with Curly Seckler, a former band member of Lester Flatt's who had taken over as bandleader of the former Lester Flatt band.
Kenny went on to play locally with friends and at church functions during 1986 -2001 where he enjoyed being at home off the road, spending time with his wife Kaye and children; Kenneth Michael, Mary and Laura. In November 2001, Kenny returned to the road touring with Rhonda Vincent's stage band, the Rage. This of course has led him to now tour with the award-winning Larry Stephenson Band. Kenny stated, "this is an exciting time, and I'm looking forward to playing with Larry and the group." The band is also thrilled to have this wonderful addition and welcomes Kenny's trademark hard driving style on banjo and his great vocals. Be on the listen for those wonderful quartets the band has to offer.
