After years of debate and research, we've decided to officially launch the Chicago Bluegrass Festival.  An organically grown bluegrass festival emphasizing our tight community.  We decided to start small, and get to know every person, every neighbor, every picker and fan -- a handful of annual events woven together on a formula based on organic gardening.  We will begin by developing an ideal soil, then start planting the right seeds. It will be a lot of work, but with your help, ideas and support...we can all enjoy the harvest together.
"Three of us, at least, are young and we believe our music should be effervescent… just like the percolating South Branch of the Chicago River (aka "Bubbly Creek"). We guarantee our shows are carbonated by always chugging lots of Mountain Dew before tuning up! Sugar, caffeine, and lots of CO2 keep things rolling. If a chicken can walk on water, we can fire up some good grass in Chicago. The band features Dan Fuchs on the dobro, Andy Malloy on banjo, Andy Pennington on guitar, and Chip Covington on bass."
"Tangleweed is a band of five musical reactionaries from Chicago featuring Ryan Fisher (banjo), Paul Wargaski (bass), Billy Oh (fiddle), Kenneth Rainey (mandolin) & Scott Judd (guitar). The band has been hailed in reviews worldwide as a welcome breath of fresh air for lovers of stomping bluegrass, banjo-jazz, and high lonesome harmonies."
"The Whiskey Hollow Bluegrass Band has been playing around the Chicago area for over 17 years, delighting audiences by ending our sets on time! We've have played hundreds of clubs, weddings, parties, square dances, holiday events, festivals, and one briss…but no one really wants to talk about that. Though we did get a tip." Whiskey Hollow is Steve Rosen on mandolin, Gus Friedlander on guitar, Steve Doyle on dobro, L J Slavin on fiddle & saw, Mitch Strafer on bass & Ms. Rita Ruby on guitar.

The Henhouse Prowlers have worked some of the roughest and bluesiest dives in town…and have emerged with devout followers. No wonder. This is pure traditional bluegrass, Chicago style. Packed with heart, grit, and soul. Keen honest grass with razor sharp edges. The band features Ben Benedict on guitar, Jon Goldfine on Doghouse Bass, Ryan Hinshaw on fiddle, Nathan Sitzman on Mandolin, and Ben Wright on banjo.

"Chicago Bluegrass Band has performed all around for years…including last year's show at the Indiana State Penitentiary.  Fortunately, we were released on recognizance after a thorough screening and our prints checked out.  Good behavior is our forte, but only when necessary.  We love performing big wallop-style bluegrass….sometimes on the edge." The Chicago Bluegrass Band features Peter Nye on guitar, Tom Boyd on banjo & dobro, Kenny Stone on the fiddle & Chirp Tibbington on bass.
"Hailing from Northern Illinois, James Creek Road presents genuine heart-felt bluegrass music.  Good guys all around, their music is well rooted in tradition and features some of the best gospel style harmonies in the greater Chicagoland. It's a treat to have them in the area." James Creek Road is Larry Grimes on bass, Bruce Gosse on mandolin, Larry Booth on banjo, Charlie Ginn on guitar, and Karen Ginn & Sarah Singleton vocals.
“When the Northern Skyline Band hits the stage, it’s clear they have a secret ingredient in their bluegrass recipe!  It’s something more than experience, their love of music, or their obvious joy on stage.  Maybe something greater than their individual musicianship, their love of twang, or humor.  It must be that lonesome lost Hoosier on the hot mandolin!  Whatever the secret, Northern Skyline is a Chicago bluegrass treat!  The band includes Jim Grosso on guitar & vocals, Mary Grosso on bass & vocals, Bob Perlstein on banjo, Charlie Brown on mandolin, and Rick Veras on fiddle.”

$20 (cash only) at the door, $15 seniors/children

Bluegrass Legends Concerts are produced in cooperation with the American Legion Hall, Post 42, in Evanston.  We honor our veterans and servicemen by providing true American music in an American setting.  Proceeds from the Chicago Bluegrass Festival will go towards the improvements we made at the American Legion Music Hall last fall. We installed lights, hung speakers, installed a permanent sound system cable, and upgraded the entire electrical system of the room.  We did these improvements to insure we all have a more enjoyable concert series.  We hope you join us in supporting the continuation of the series by attending the Chicago Bluegrass Festival - Parts 1 & 2, and help us celebrate this great tradition.

Bluegrass Legends Concerts are the only running bluegrass music concert series in the Chicago area that features national touring talent. The 2009 Spring series marks our 10th year of presenting the nation's top acoustic bluegrass talent and folk-roots opening acts in an all-ages, non-smoking concert setting for families. Seating is limited as the concerts are designed to be intimate and personal. Everyone is encouraged meet the performers and learn about our rich American musical heritage.
